Get to know your LGBTQ+ Officer

 

Tell us a little about yourself, what are your interests and what is your background?

 

Hiya! I’m Harry and I am your LGBTQ+ Officer for the 24/25 Academic Year! I was born and raised in the Midlands, specifically Rugby!  I love socialising with my friends, going out to eat (I love Wagamama’s) and I’m also a Drag cabaret performer! I’m open to using any pronouns but I primarily use He/Him and They/Them.

 
What Course do you study?

 

I am a 3rd Year Musical Theatre Cabaret student 

 

Tell us about your roles and responsibilities?

 

  • Represents the views and interests of LGBTQ+ students on council and to the university
  • Holds the union officer team and trustee's to account on issues of concern to LGBTQ+ students
  • Attends events related to LGBTQ+ students on behalf of the union

 

What are your manifesto points this year?

 

  • Create more LGBTQ+ safe spaces for students
  • Re-establish the LGBTQ+ Society
  • Work with the SU to establish more queer events, like student led queer cabaret nights, Lip Sync battles and of course Drag nights!
  • Hold more informational events on LGBTQ+ History and Issues in the modern day
  • Spread information to staff and students on the correct language to support LGBTQ+ Students
  • Supporting students on their journeys, coming out transitioning and finding their own identities, and creating guides to help them rectify their profiles on university systems 
  • Make sure all previous LGBTQ+ Officers past actions stay in place.

 

How have you been involved with the SU during your time at Chi Uni? 

 

I have been a member of the Heel's society for the past year, as well as working in the SU behind the bar and more importantly hosting karaoke!

 

What are you are looking forward to achieving with your role? 

 

I look forward to seeing the difference I can make in the Queer social life here at Chichester, as well as keeping Staff and Students informed on Queer events and key dates in Queer history.
