Get to know your Chair of Student Council

 

Tell us a little about yourself, what are your interests and what is your background?

 

Hi, I'm Olly, your new Chair of the Student Council and also President of the Politics Society. I'm originally from East London but currently live in Hampshire. I love to play tennis (my favourite tennis player is Serena Williams) and read (my favourite book, Twilight of Democracy The Failure of Politics And The Parting Of Friends) and stay up to date on recent political developments around the world (favourite politicians are Ursula von der Leyen and Elizabeth Warren). My passion is politics, and I love what I study. I hope to go into the field of politics someday to make people's lives a little better and a little easier, which is exactly what I plan to do in my role here.

Politics and International Relations

 

Tell us about your roles and responsibilities?

 

  • Represents interests of all students and holds the executive committee and trustees to account on issues concerning students 
  • Prepares agenda for student council meetings and union general meetings 
  • Impartially chairs all student council and union general meetings 

 

What are your manifesto points this year?

 

  • Transparency of the proceedings of the Council
  • Creating a welcoming and safe environment in which diversity is celebrated not tolerated
  • Every decision is made for the good of the students
  • Holding the executive committee to account
  • Fighting for the students best interests

 

How have you been involved with the SU during your time at Chi Uni? 

 

I'm the current President of the Politics Society.

 

What are you are looking forward to achieving with your role? 

 

Allowing there to be a fair, honest and open discussion among the council. Making sure decisions are taken that will enhance the students of the University. Creating a transparent process so students are able to access what decisions have been made
